The Pennsylvania Beef Council, PBC, helps to educate healthcare professionals about beef’s positive attributes and role in a nutrient-rich sustainable eating pattern, position beef as a key food for all life stages and cultivate collaborative partnerships with influential healthcare experts to share beef’s nutrition and production story.
Staff registered dietitian nutritionist, Beth Stark, RDN, LDN co-hosted a beef and dairy farm tour with American Dairy Association North East (ADANE) dietitian and industry affairs staff members and PA beef producer, Bill Devore. A group of 15 PA-based dietitians on the tour visited Springhouse Market, in Canonsburg, PA, where they learned about beef and dairy nutrition, animal care, production practices, sustainability and more. Attendees were also able to experience a working dairy operation. The tour helped to kick-off the PA Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics meeting where Pennsylvania Beef Council (PBC) was a diamond sponsor and exhibitor. PBC also jointly sponsored a dietitian presenter with ADANE who spoke on the topic of: Every Bite Counts: Nutrition in the Kitchen during Pregnancy, Infancy and Toddler Stages, which focused on incorporating both dairy and beef into these stages to optimize overall nutrition intake.
As part of an annual sponsorship with the 3rd largest organization of family physicians in the country, PA Academy of Family Physicians, registered dietitian nutritionist, Beth Stark, RDN, LDN attended their summer CME meeting in Delaware in early June. Here, Beth was able to engage with ~75 family physicians from PA to share beef nutrition messaging, heart-healthy recipes, resources and more for the patient populations served by this group. Beef was also well represented as part of a conference snack break, featuring beef jerky trail mix, and a Taco Tuesday evening reception where beef walking tacos and steak fajitas were served.
In May, the second of three healthcare professional webinars wrapped up with 139 attendees tuning in live from the Northeast region and beyond! The 90-minute presentation + virtual farm tour entitled, “Sustainable Nutrition Meets Sustainability on the Farm: What Healthcare Professionals Need to Know,” was presented by registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) and OK beef rancher, Sheri Glazier, MS, RD/LD and PA beef producer at Bow Creek Farms, Amy Hess. The duo shed light on the topic of sustainable nutrition and how healthcare professionals can apply this concept to dietary recommendations for their patients/clients. They also gave attendees a glimpse of beef production and sustainability practices on their farms in OK and PA. Attendees were invited to ask any questions of our expert presenters as well to help break down common myths and provide a more realistic picture of beef production. Overall feedback was highly positive with 98% of respondents saying they were very satisfied or satisfied with the content and presenter and 92% saying they are very likely or likely to recommend lean alongside fruits, vegetables and whole grains, to your patients/clients as a result of the webinar content.
