The year 2020 has been transformative and its impact on every corner of our society will be felt for years to come. For many, the year started just like any other, with resolutions for the new year and the hope and promise of a new decade. That quickly changed with the onset of the COVID-19 global pandemic. People experienced disruption in all aspect of their lives and their communities: empty store shelves, fear in the stock market, losing jobs, and concern for the economy. As if that was not enough, other major news headlines in 2020 included a string of natural disasters, and protests— all within an election year. This overview provides a snapshot of how domestic consumers have responded to these unprecedented events and tries to determine which behaviors will be temporary and which will be permanent. What was the impact on the food space? How did it impact consumer media habits? What about beef?
