Spring-Ford High School Wins “Beef’s Best” Concession Stand Contest for Their Smash-Hit, The Kenney Burger

BEDFORD, Pa. (December 18, 2025) — The Pennsylvania Beef Council (PBC), through the Northeast Beef Promotion Initiative (NEBPI) and in partnership with the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), is proud to announce Spring-Ford High School’s Boys Soccer Program as the winner of the 2025 Beef’s Best Concession Stand Contest.

Spring-Ford’s legendary Kenney Burgers have become a community phenomenon, earning top honors for showcasing how high-quality beef delivers both flavor and fuel to student athletes, their families, and fans.

What began as one parent’s idea to swap out pre-made chicken sandwiches for made-to-order smash burgers has since transformed the Spring-Ford snack stand into a local legend. Parent volunteer, Daniel Kenney, brought his grill, fresh-ground beef, signature sauce, and “lacy smash” technique to the soccer program, and demand took off immediately.

“Truth be told, I have a blast smashing Kenney Burgers, and it’s always a labor of love,” said Dan. “It’s awesome to think about how a simple backyard burger can have such a positive effect on a community, from fueling championship runs to raising scholarship funds to supporting local food pantries. Every delicious ounce of fresh ground beef helps make a real difference in people’s lives.”

Within just three home games, the Kenney Burgers had surpassed the entire previous year’s concession sales. The team even added a “secret menu,” featuring creative takes like The Oklahoma Oinker (with sautéed onions and bacon) and the OK OK (topped with a fried egg). As Dan proudly puts it, The Kenney Burger’s motto has always been, “Fueling Champions Since 2018.”

The Beef’s Best Concession Stand Contest, now in its second year, celebrates high school programs that feature beef prominently in their concession stands and demonstrate community pride and creativity. The winning school received a $250 cash prize, a commemorative plaque, a Beef’s Best display banner, and T-shirts, with additional beef swag provided to early entrants.

“Spring-Ford’s story embodies exactly what the Beef’s Best contest is about, celebrating community spirit, teamwork, and the power of beef to bring people together,” said Nichole Hockenberry, Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Beef Council. “The Kenney Burger has become more than just a menu item; it’s a symbol of how local effort and great food can fuel success, both on and off the field.”

“Everyone involved in the SF Soccer Snack Bar is truly honored to be selected as the PA Beef’s Best Concession Stand, and we would like to encourage parents across the state who have that dish their kids’ teams beg them to make, to bring it to their snack shack. Lighting may not strike twice, but delicious offerings are always a winner.”  Dan left us with this, “Our other motto is when we’re out of beef, you’re out of luck.”  Here’s hoping your luck holds long enough for you to get a Kenney Burger for yourself!
